Traditional Garlic Sauce (Thoumeya)


Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 or 3 garlic cloves, chopped (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (or half a cup of yogurt as an alternative)
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Preparation Method:

  • In a pot, dissolve the cornstarch with the water while it’s cold.
  • Place the pot on the stove and stir well until the mixture boils and thickens. Let it cool for an hour.
  • In a blender or food processor, add the chopped garlic, milk, and mayonnaise (or yogurt), and blend them well.
  • Then, add the cornstarch mixture, salt, oil, vinegar, and lemon juice. Blend well until the garlic sauce becomes smooth and thick.
  • Refrigerate until ready to use.
