Crispy Calamari

Ingredients:

  • 500g calamari, cut into rings
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crispiness)
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Wash the calamari thoroughly and soak it in milk for 30 minutes to keep it tender and remove any fishy smell.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour with cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. Place the breadcrumbs (preferably panko) in a third bowl.
  5. Remove the calamari from the milk, dredge it in the flour mixture, dip it in the egg, and then coat it with breadcrumbs. Repeat for extra crispiness.
  6. Heat oil over medium heat and fry the calamari until golden and crispy.
  7. Place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Pro Tips for Extra Crunchy Calamari:

Mixing cornstarch with flour creates a light and crispy texture.
Soaking the calamari in milk keeps it tender and removes any strong smell.
Using panko breadcrumbs instead of regular ones gives a better crunch.
Frying over medium heat ensures a golden crust without making the calamari tough.

Homemade Ketchup Sauce:

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 1 tsp honey
  • ½ tsp white vinegar
  • ¼ tsp paprika
  • A pinch of garlic powder

Mix all the ingredients well and serve with hot crispy calamari. Enjoy!
