Crispy Calamari
Ingredients:
- 500g calamari, cut into rings
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crispiness)
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup milk
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp salt
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- Wash the calamari thoroughly and soak it in milk for 30 minutes to keep it tender and remove any fishy smell.
- In a bowl, mix the flour with cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Place the breadcrumbs (preferably panko) in a third bowl.
- Remove the calamari from the milk, dredge it in the flour mixture, dip it in the egg, and then coat it with breadcrumbs. Repeat for extra crispiness.
- Heat oil over medium heat and fry the calamari until golden and crispy.
- Place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Pro Tips for Extra Crunchy Calamari:
Mixing cornstarch with flour creates a light and crispy texture.
Soaking the calamari in milk keeps it tender and removes any strong smell.
Using panko breadcrumbs instead of regular ones gives a better crunch.
Frying over medium heat ensures a golden crust without making the calamari tough.
Homemade Ketchup Sauce:
- ½ cup ketchup
- 1 tsp honey
- ½ tsp white vinegar
- ¼ tsp paprika
- A pinch of garlic powder
Mix all the ingredients well and serve with hot crispy calamari. Enjoy!
